The origins of the Serbian Golf Club Geelong date back to 8 January 1978, when Dragan Stanisavljevic and a group of friends organised the inaugural Serbian Cup at Queens Park Golf Club. This event established a lasting tradition, with the Serbian Cup held at the same venue ever since.

Following the first Serbian Cup, several founding members came together to establish what is now known as the Serbian Golf Club Geelong. Since then, the Club has grown to more than fifty members, who meet monthly to enjoy friendly competition and a shared passion for golf.

The Club holds its Annual General Meeting following each Serbian Cup competition. This meeting provides members with the opportunity to elect the Club Committee, contribute ideas and help shape the Club’s future.

Throughout the year, members compete for two major honours: the Slobodan Mirkovic Medal and the Club Championship. The Slobodan Mirkovic Medal is awarded to the member who accumulates the most points across the year, with points allocated according to finishing positions in monthly events. The Club Champion is determined by the best two nett scores from the final three monthly events of the year.

In 1986, the Club mourned the loss of much-loved member Rade Jaksic. Remembered for his humour, friendship and the enjoyment he brought to every round, Rade believed that the golfer with the lowest score was the best player on the day. To honour his memory, his son George established the Rade Jaksic Memorial Shield in 1987. Awarded for the lowest gross score at the Serbian Cup, the Shield remains a treasured honour, with members striving to have their names added in recognition of the day’s best performance.

In early 2004, members of the Club competed individually against members of a Serbian golf club from Sydney for the Kalenic Cup in Canberra. Following the event, the two clubs agreed to establish a state-versus-state competition, leading to the creation of the Interstate Championship. The inaugural championship was held at Merimbula Golf Club later that year. South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory have since joined the competition, which is held annually at rotating venues across Australia.
